NEW HAVEN, CONN., June 6. - The final match in the tennis tournament for the New England championship was played this afternoon and Howland of New York, defeated Eoote of Yale, the present champion, by the following score: 0-6, 6-4, 6-0, 6-1.

At the start Foote won everything but then weakened and Howland gained confidence from his antagonist's poor play. He drove the balls prettily along the side lines, just out of Foote's reach. The two last sets were as signal victories for Howland as the first had been for Foote. Howland is now entitled to hold the championship cup for one year.
