The candidates for the freshman baseball team began their work in the cage at the Gymnasium yesterday afternoon. The men practiced picking up grounders and then took a short run up North Avenue, which was followed by work on the weights and a light dumb-bell drill. The material is about equal to the usual run of freshman candidates, and as some of the men who eventually play on the team go out with the 'varsity at first, the nine will be stronger than present appearances indicate.
The pitchers and catchers were sent to the Carey Building to get the benefit of Mr. Keefe's coaching. Captain Whittemore acted as coach, and will continue to do so until a regular coach is appointed. The work at first is necessarily light, but as the candidates are thinned out, each man will receive more particular attention and more care will be taken to correct individual faults.
