There will be a meeting of the Harvard Engineering Society at eight o'clock on Friday evening, in Sever 11. Mr. Geo. W. Melville, Engineer-in-chief of the navy, will address the meeting on the "Training of an Engineer." The lecture will be open to the whole University.

Mr. Melville is known for the prominent part he played in the attempted voyage to the north pole through Behring Straits; but his appointment in the navy is due to his ability as an engineer. During his term of office the navy has been practically rebuilt, and the excellence of our ships is mainly due to his work. The machinery of all our new ships has been designed and built under his supervision, and there is yet to be recorded any case of failure.
