French Play.

The first performance of the French Play, which was given in Boston last evening, was a pronounced success from the moment that the curtain rose. Union Hall was well filled, and the audience became very enthusiastic as the play progressed.

The detailed account of the dress rehearsal appeared yesterday morning, and there is but little left to add. The performance went off last night without a single hitch. The principal male parts were excellently taken by F. P. Chaves and H. Schurz, while A. Corbin and E. Knoblauch, as the two young girls, were fascinating. The rest of the cast was uniformly good. The three ballets evoked great applause from the audience, the gypsy girls making an especial hit. The costumes were all good, some being exceedingly pretty, and the play throughout was full of vivacity and fun.
