Now that the excitement of football is over, attention turns to the 'varsity crew, This year's captain starts out with the not easy task of having three positions to fill, as only four of last year's crew have returned to college. It will be difficult to sift out three men to take the places of Kelton, Rantoul and Lynam. The football men who rowed last year will take a rest, but very soon Newell, Waters, Acton and Cummings will begin rowing again.
At present there are only nine men trying for the crew, but a call for candidates will be given within the next week. The men rowing at present and their weights are as follows: Talbot, 168; Weed, 160; Stevenson, 159; Thompson, 171; Smith, 158; Ninde, 145; Kaven, 170 1-2; Potter, 171 1-2; Goodwin, 172 1-2. The men row daily for about three quarters of an hour in the rowing room, take dumb-bell work and exercise on the chest weights with a short run up North Avenue. Ex-captain Perkins is coaching the men and this preliminary work is sure to develop some good material.
