THE SECOND HALF.

The opening play of the second half has been already explained and it is needless to describe the joy that rose on the Harvard side when it gave a gain of 20 yards. But the next two downs gave no gain, and Brewer was forced to kick, sending the ball to Butterworth at the 5 yard line.

Yale's failure to gain.Yale made 5 yards on two rushes by Laurie Bliss, and get five more for offside play by Harvard. The next two downs gave only two yards, and Mackie stopped the kick, but it was Butterworth's ball again on the 10 yard line. Laurie Bliss made no distance on a "fake" kick, and Butterworth only a yard through the centre, but Bliss did better on the next down and completed the necessary 5 yards.

A succession of gains for Yale.In two rushes Butterworth got 5 yards, and then L. Bliss and Wallis made six yards through left tackler. On a wedge Butterworth made three more through the centre, but L. Bliss failed to get by Emmons. However, Yale got 5 yards on the next down for offside play and though C. Bliss made no gain, his brother got in a run of 25 yards round Emmons again, aided by good interference. The continued hard-treatment was beginning to tell on Harvard's left end.

Harvard's Good Brace.On the next down, however. Trafford broke through and snatched the ball. Gray went seven yards between Winter and Hinkey, and Brewer added two more through the centre. It was here that Upton made his run of 20 yards, the prettiest of Harvard's interference plays, and was at the end of that run that as he was lying on the ground that one of the Yale guards took the opportunity to land with both his knees on the Harvard tackle's head. Gray followed up Upton's gain with 2 yards, and Lake, in two rushes made the rest of the required 5. The next two downs did not gain, so Brewer kicked, the ball going out at the 20 yard line. At this juncture Upton's injuries became so painful that even his grit could not keep him up, and Mason was substituted.

Yale's Winning Touchdown.At last the chance that Yale was waiting for had come. From this time on they played for Harvard's weakened point. L. Bliss and Butterworth made 10 yards through Mason's hole, and then Butterworth started to kick, and though the kick failed Yale got five yards for off-side play. Mackie spoiled the next play and Butterworth kicked.

Brewer caught the ball and made 8 yards but was immediately forced to kick again, and at this point Emmons' dislocated shoulder was too much for him, and he had to leave the field. J. Shea took left tackle, and Mason was moved out to the end.

Laurie Bliss immediately got in a run of 35 yards round Harvard's left end, but Harvard got the ball on the next four downs.

Mackie and Gray got but 3 yards between them, and Brewer kicked again, the ball going to Yale at the centre of the field.

Butterworth bucked the centre for five yards, and then a long series of short gains through the right side of the line took the ball to Harvard's one yard line. Finally on Stagg's old "fake," pnsh-play, C.D. Bliss took the ball over the line for a touchdown behind the goal-posts. It was a pretty application of an old trick.

Butterworth kicked an easy goal. Score; 6-0. Ten minutes more to play.

Harvard's vain endeavors.The new opening play once more yielded a substantial gain, but Gray only made 2 yards, and Brewer punted.

Butterworth made a fair catch on the 20 yard line, but Waters stopped the V, and then stopped a kick, and it was Harvard's ball on the 25 yard line.

Trafford dropped back for a try at goal, but Winter broke through and the ball went to Yale.

Butterworth got 7 yards between Lewis and Mackie, but L. Bliss failed to get through between Shea and Mason, and Yale kicked.

Time called with the score 6 to 0 in Yale's favor.Waters and Brewer made no gains, but Lake got 5 yards over Winter. Then Brewer kicked, and on the next play time was called with the ball on Yale's 20 yard line.
