Harvard 9; Morrills 3.

The game yesterday was an easy victory for Harvard. Till Harvard's half of the sixth inning the score was very even, and it looked as if Harvard might have some difficulty in winning. But two runs in the sixth, one in the seventh, and three in the eighth served to put Morrill's team out of the race. The nine did not play as clean a game in the field as usual, though the play improved much towards the end of the game, and some brilliant plays were made. Wiggin was given a chance in the pitcher's box, and made an excellent showing. Morrill's men got only four clean hits, and twelve of them struck out. The home run which Cloney made in the fifth inning would not have been good for more than three bases if Alward had not found it difficult to pick up the rolling ball on the dirt tennis courts back of the Law School. The throwing to bases was sharp on both sides, sixteen men in all being caught on bases. It was not until the fourth inning that Harvard found the ball, but after that the batting was excellent.

The first scoring was made in Harvard's half of the fourth inning. A two base hit to centre field by Alward was followed by a single by Cook. which brought Alward in. In the fifth Cloney led off for his side with a long fly past Alward, and came home before it could be fielded in. Maegher made a base hit to centre. Hallowell threw the ball to first, long after all chance to catch the man there was gone. The ball sailed high over Trafford's head, and Maegher took third. Then Connor hit to Dean, who feinted towards third base, keeping Meagher there, while Connor was thrown out at first. Slatery hit a grounder to Trafford, who fumbled, and Maegher came in. For Harvard Dean made a run on a hit, a steal, and two errors. This was Dean's only hit. In his four other times at the but he got three bases on balls, and was hit once. Hallowell had gotten to third on a wild attempt to throw out Dean at the plate, and he now came home on Hovey's grounder to Slattery. In the first half of the sixth Morrill's nine tied the score. Doe got to first on a grounder which bounced too badly for Wiggin to take it easily. Flavin hit to right, and Frothingham fumbled, Doe getting to third. Cloney sacrificed and Doe came in. In Harvard's half of the sixth the team began to draw away from Morrills. Three hits, combined with a steal and an error, brought in two runs. Another was earned in the seventh by Hallowell's and Hovey's hits and Trafford's sacrifice. A base on balls, two hits, and two errors netted two more in the eighth, the score finally standing nine to three.
