The game yesterday was the quickest of the year. Both pitchers were very effective, and the fielding of both teams was generally sharp and quick. Harvard's one error was made by Hovey, who fumbled a hard-hit ball which he had run forward to meet. Bates pitched in his best form, striking out ten men, and allowing his opponents but three hits, two of them scratches. Their one clean hit was a single to Hallowell in the eighth. No bases on balls were given them, and only four of them reached first. Two of these were left, one on first and one on second, and two thrown out at second. Cook was back on third for most of the game, but he had no chances. Harvard was not so strong at the bat. Stevens was hit for six singles, but these were scattered through five innings, and four of them were made after two men were out.

Our two runs were made in the first after two men were out. Dean had taken his base on balls, but was called out at second on a questionable decision. Hallowell struck out. Hovey hit a grounder to Sullivan, who threw wild to first. Hovey stole second and Trafford got a base on balls. Frothingham advanced both men by a single to right. Alward hit sharply to shortstop, who let the ball go through his legs, and Hovey and Trafford came home. Cook was hit by a pitched ball and took first. With the bases full, Upton struck out. After this inning, only one Harvard man reached second. In the fifth inning Trafford hit a long fly to left that looked good for three bases, but McCarron ran back and caught it prettily. In the next inning Frothingham made a fine hit between centre and left, which again looked good for two bases at least. But McCarron made a splendid run and stopped the ball in time to keep Frothingham on first.
