At a meeting of the Athletic Committee last evening the following petition from the executive committee of the Boat Club was discussed: "The Harvard Boat Club hereby petitions the Committee on Athletics that Mr. W. A. Bancroft be allowed to coach the University and Freshman Crews for three years." The petition has been under consideration for over a month, and has been discussed to the bottom. Last night a full meeting of the committee was held, and attar several hours' talk decided by a vote of five to four to reject the petition. No official reason is assigned, and it is understood that many different objections obtained weight with the various members who voted against it.
