Yesterday afternoon on Jarvis the 'varsity played a game with a picked nine from the Boston Athletic Association. The team included three former Harvard players, Allen, Edgerly and Boyden, while some of the other players were men who have at some time played on the Beacons. The visiting team played a fair game, but the men showed a lack of practice. The 'varsity showed improvement over their playing of Wednesday, and the batting especially was stronger. The base running was poor. The features of the game were Linn's beautiful assist to Willard of a ball which ordinarily would have surely been a base hit, Howland's superb running one hand catch in centre field and Henshaw's long hit to left.
Edgerly scored the only run for his side in the fourth inning on Linn's muff, a steal, and Codman's base hit. In the first inning Linn and Willard got first on called balls. Linn stole second, reached third on a wild pitch, and both he and Willard scored on Henshaw's hit. In the fourth inning Wood got his first base on balls and came home on Codman's wild throw. Linn hit safely and scored on Howland's two-base hit. Only six innings were played. In the last, Linn and Willard made base-hits, and Henshaw and Dean each made a three base hit, Linn, Willard and Henshaw scoring. McLeod took Hawley's place in the last inning. Appended is the score:
