Alumni Records at Wesleyan.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The third edition of the Alumni Records of Wesleyan has just been published and is the fullest work of the kind which has ever appeared. Not only is the name, time of birth and death of the student given, but his place of birth, where he prepared for college, his class and rank in college, his subsequent career, and if the man is dead, the place of his death, and the name and address of a near relative. It also states his honors and degrees, if any, and if the man has married, when, where, and to whom, number of children and their names. In the account of his career after leaving college, mention is made of any literary work he may have done, the extent of his travels and his present address.

The graduates, honoraria's and non-graduates are treated separately, and each man has a number by which he is subsequently referred to.

In addition to the regular record, is a long list of calculations based on the figures got from the records, some of which are extremely ingenious if not particularly valuable. One rather interesting fact is that of the whole number of graduates, 31 per cent, have become Methodist Episcopal ministers, and that Wesleyan has given to the world an aggregate of 8,540 years of Methodist preaching. Following the records is a bibliography of 150 pages, which sets forth every book or article written by Wesleyan alumni. The whole book is of about 700 pages, and has been prepared with such care, that only one or two of the 2,226 who have attended Wesleyan have escaped the vigilance of the compilers.
