The additions to the Agassiz and Peabody Museums, for which the foundations were laid before the close of last term, have been pushed forward so rapidly during the summer that they are now almost ready for roofing. This makes a great advance toward the contemplated union of the two buildings, though the missing corner will probably not be supplied for several years. The extension of the Peabody Museum is about forty feet in depth, and will be devoted mainly to exhibition rooms. The addition to the Agassiz Museum is 110 feet long, and will be used for botany, geology, and physical geography. The central portion, for the length of 70 feet will be devoted to botany. The arrangement of rooms in this section will be as follows: In the basement will be chemical and photographic laboratories. The ground floor will contain synoptic exhibition room and a lecture room, with a capacity of about 200 people. The next story will be devoted to plianerogramic laboratories. The main exhibition rooms will occupy the third and fourth floors. The specimens for these rooms will be selected especially with a view to illustrating economic botany, with samples of the useful products, and will be supplemented with a number of glass models, now in preparation. The upper stories will be devoted to laboratories for cryptogramic research. The finishing of the interior and the arrangement of the specimens will probably consume eight or ten months, and the rooms will not be open for use until next term. The proposed extension connecting the two museums will probably be devoted mainly to laboratories, as there is at present great need for such accommodations in several departments.
