Melrose, 9; Harvard, 7.

The Melrose team visited Cambridge yesterday and were victorious over the home nine by a score of 9 to 7. The visitors played an exceedingly good game, but they went to pieces in the fourth and eighth, giving Harvard four runs. The game was marked by the heavy batting of both teams, Melrose batting Bates out of the box in the third. Melrose blanked Harvard easily in the first. For the visitors, Grant led off with a clean hit, stole second and scored on Farren's single. Chase made a two-bagger, which was quickly fielded by Linn to Willard, who threw Farren out at third. The other two men were put out by Willard and Boyden. In the second, Rogers scored on a hit, a wild pitch, an attempted put out and Henhaw's error. Carleton reached first on Bates' muff, got to second on Henshaw's wild throw and stole home. Sherman scored on a single, a steal, a put out and Willard's wild throw to the plate. Melrose made four more in the third by a base on balls, two singles and errors by Quackenboss and Campbell. Bates retired in this inning, Boyden coming in from centre and Howland taking his place in the field. After the third, Harvard played a good game, Melrose making only one more run, earned, in the last inning.

Harvard bunched three hits in the fourth, and, aided by two errors, made two runs. Another run was added in the fifth by Campbell's hit, Westcott's fumble in centre, a stolen base and Knowlton's hit. Harvard tried hard to tie the score in the eighth, but failed.

Harvard, after the first three innings, played a steady game. Harvard batted hard, sending ten flies to the out-field. Linn played a fine fielding game and led his side at the bat. Gallivan played his usual good game, both in the field and at the bat. For Melrose, Grant played finely, as did Chase, who in the eighth caught a hot liner from Knowlton's bat, jumping high in the air. Harvard's coaching was poor, and lost her at least one run.
