The Index for 1888-89, which will be put on sale at noon today, is in many ways an improvement over the publication of last year. It is published in simple cloth instead of paper as heretofore, which change will render the book much more desirable. It appears with records of old crews and nines that have not been published in any former Index, and it has a very fair picture of the Mott Haven team which won the cup for Harvard last May. The book of this year has twenty-five pages more than that of last year, this additional space being filled with the records mentioned above, the names of new clubs (principally "State clubs" formed in the past year), and sundry other information. The book, of course, has the usual information published-the names and addresses and homes of every one connected with the University; complete memberships of all the clubs; names and positions of all the men on athletic teams; records of all athletic contests which took place last year, and a tabular account of past records, averages, etc.
The book is admirably gotten up, everything being arranged systematically, the clubs according to their aim, etc., so that any information sought can be readily found. Evidently great pains have been taken by the editors in the arrangement of the information published and in getting the names of men correctly. The book is remarkably free from mistakes. The Index is invaluable, and every one who wants a handy source of information about college matters should get one.
