Fall Sports.

The fall sports took place yesterday afternoon on Holmes Field, the first event being started at precisely 4.10 o'clock. No records were broken, although some good stores were made.

The first event was the 100-yards dash, the first heat of which was won by O. K. Hawes, '92, in 10 1-2 seconds. J. Allen, '92, was second. The second heat was won by E. C. Moen, '91, (scratch) in 10 2-5 seconds; T. J. Stead was next. The bicycle race was to have occurred next but men who entered are to take part in the Berkeley races to be held at New York today, they decided not to race yesterday. This was a disappointment to the spectators, as a close race was expected.

The final heat in the 100-yards dash came next with only three men at the start, as Stead wished to save himself for the 440-yards run. Hawes, Moen, and Allen were the competitors; Hawes took the lead immediately and kept it to the end, although closely pressed by Moen. Hawes' time was 10 2-5 seconds. The running broad jump was won by G. R. White, Gr., who covered 20 feet, 2 1-2 inches. This was the best record of the day. The mile walk was a very evenly contested event. J. E. Howe, '91, being beaten, by not more than three yards, by Bates, '92, who had thirty seconds start of his opponent. Bates' time was 3 minutes. There were only three competitors in the mile run, White, '92, Dodge, '91, and Davenport, '90. Davenport was handicapped by both opponents by a distance of 100 yards which proved too great, as both men came in far ahead of him. Dodge won in 4 minutes, 34 3-4 seconds. Davenport's time was 4 minutes, 46 seconds. The running high jump was contested by E. W. Dustan, '89, and G. R. White, Gr. Dustan had a handicap over his opponent of three inches, and won by a jump of 5 feet. The 440 yards run was the next event. In this there were eight entries, Mandell. '89, and Endicott, '90, being scratched The men came in well at the finish. T. J. Stead, '91, leading, his time being 52 1-4 seconds. W. H. Wright came in second. The half mile run was contested by W. P. Downs, '90, anc G. L. Batchelder, '92, who had 40 yards handicap. The race was well run by both men, Downes gaining on his opponent up to the last few rods, when Batchelder made a good spurt and won in 2 minutes and 3 seconds. There were nine entries in the 220 yards run which was won by S. Wells, Jr., '91, in 23 minutes, O. K. Hawes being second. The officers of the course were referee G. B. Morrison, '83; judges, J. D.
