"The melancholy days are come, the saddest of the year," - examinations soon will be upon us. The schedules were given out to-day in the various recitation rooms, and seem to give general satisfaction. In one or two cases, however, there is too much crowding; some men having three examinations in two days.
The seniors held their class day elections last Thursday. The balloting was the scene of much bickering and "wire-pulling." Some claim that there was underhand dealing; at any rate, a number of the most prominent men in the class were left in the cold, not even getting on the class day committee.
The foot-ball captaincy this year fell to the fortune of '89. W. J. Cook, '89, was elected. While the choice in some ways is eminently a good one, it caused considerable dissatisfaction in the junior class, and that too among the representatives of the class on the team. They claim that the election was contrary to precedent, and as they have the back-bone of the coming team in their class, and among them many competent to captain the team, there was no call for the slight given to the class. The '88 representatives on the team, have signified their desire to decline to play, and thus get in a man of their own number, but the man of their choice has refused to accept, and deems it best to make no disturbance.
The "Bric-a-brac," the college annual, has been delayed considerable this year; it will be out the latter part of this week. It promises unusual artistic merit and talent, judging from the proof sheets. The college catalogue also will be put on sale inside of a week. A few improvements will be noticeable.
Princeton is to have a toboggan slide. It will be built and managed by the instructor in gymnastics.
