The Chapel Service.

The services at Appleton Chapel last evening were conducted by Rev. William Lawrence. He read the fourth chapter of Matthew and took as his text "Ye shall not tempt the Lord, thy God." In his sermon he studied the temptations of Jesus, his method of meeting them, and made practical applications of the lesson. He traced parallel temptations of the Church which in its overconfidence of God s love and mercy is constantly in danger of tempting Him. He spoke also to those who put their love of truth to too severe a test, and of the overconfidence of the young in their own strength.

The choir sang Sullivan's "The strain upraise," "Gilbert's "Awake thou that sleepest," and "Incline thine ear," by Hernmel.
