The 'varsity eleven defeated the team from the Worcester Institute of Technology, Saturday afternoon, by a score of 68-0. The following men composed the teams:-
Harvard-Cumnock, Longstreth, Van Schaick. Dexter, Cranston (centre), Trafford, Davis, Crosby; Dean, quarterback; V. Harding and Lee, half-backs; Sears, full-back.
Worcester Technology-Rice, Follett, Churchill, M. W. Allen (centre), Gilbert, Bartlett, Dawson; A. P. Allen, quarter-back; Crane and White, half-backs; Lake, full-back.
Mr. Morrison, '83, was referee; Mr. Clark, '91, umpire.
Time was called at 3.11. Technology had the ball, but it quickly went to Harvard on a fumble, and long rushes by Lee, and Harding carried it to the ten-yard line when Cranston advanced it five yards and Sears carried it over the line. Time four minutes. Harding kicked the goal. Score 6-0. Technology forced the ball twenty yards into Harvard's territory, but lost it on a fumble. Rushes by Lee, Harding, Sears and Longstreth carried the ball close to the goal line, and Sears made the second touchdown. Time 10 minutes. No goal. Technology kicked from the centre of the field, and, Sears returning, Crosby had the ball down on the twenty-five-yard line. Lee and Cranston advanced the ball ten yards, and Sears carried it over the line. Time 13 minutes. Harding kicked the goal. Score 16-0. Technology punted from the middle of the field; Sears returned, and Technology had the ball down on the twelve-yard line, when it went to Harvard on four downs. Dexter made a short rush and Sears forced the ball over the line. Time 17 minutes. Harding missed the goal. Score, 20-0. Technology kicked from the twenty-five yard line, but rushes by Sears and Dexter forced the ball back and Davis made the fifth touchdown for Harvard. Time 23 minutes. Harding kicked the goal. Score 26-0. Technology started the ball from the centre of the field, but lost it on a fumble. Harding getting the ball from a long pass, carried it half the length of the field in a beautiful rush and made a touchdown, from which he kicked a goal. Time 24 minutes. Technology started the ball from the middle of the field, but immediately lost it, and Harding made a rush like the last one through the entire Technology eleven and scored the seventh touchdown for Harvard. Time 27 minutes. Harding kicked the goal. Score, 38-0. The Harvard team blocked off well in these two rushes. Technology again started the ball from the centre of the field, but Harvard soon got it and Dexter and Van Schaick advanced it twenty-yards and Harding rushed 45 yards and made a touchdown. The ball was given to Technology on the ten-yard line, however, for foul holding by Harvard. Technology was forced to make a safety touchdown just as time was called. Score: Harvard, 40; Technology, 0.
The Harvard rushers played very losely in the second half and it was 11 minutes before Sears made a touchdown, the ball having been lost twice during that time for foul holding and by fumbles. Harding kicked the goal from Sears' touchdown, making the score 46-0. Technology started the ball from the centre of the field; but Dean got it from a fumble. Rushes by Harding and Davis advanced the ball well toward Technology's goal and Sears carried it across the line. Time, 14 minutes. Harding kicked the goal. Harvard got the ball in the centre of the field on four downs, and after losing it twice by fumbling and by foul holding, finally held it and rushes by Harding, Lee, Sears and Dexter carried the ball close to the line and Cranston made a touchdown. Time, 20 minutes. No goal. Dexter got hurt in this rush and his place was taken by Van Schaik. After punting by both sides close to Technology's goal line, Harding finally got the ball and made a touchdown, from which he kicked a goal-Time, 25 minutes. Score, 62-0. Technology kicked from the centre of the field; Sears returned and Technology had a fair catch. Harvard got the ball from the kick and Sears advanced the ball fifteen yards and Harding carried it over the remaining forty-yards and made the last touchdown for Harvard. Time 29 minutes. Harding kicked the goal which made the final score: Harvard, 68; Worcestor Technology, 0. Time was called just as the ball was put in play by Technology.
