The '87 Crew.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The senior crew have been steadily at work since the first of January. Of last year's crew, Alexander, Fisher, Ayer, Coolidge, Bartol and Knapp are rowing. Burgess and Mumford of last year's University crew have been rowing since the crew has been on the water.

There has been no regular coach, and consequently the crew has been coached by Capt. Alexander and Mumford.

The following are the names and weights of the men.

Weight.

Stroke, Mumford. 158.

7 Burgess. 183.

6 Alexander. 153.

5 Knapp. 150.

4 Coolidge. 154.

3 Knowles. 157.

2 Ayer. 180.

Bow, Bartol. 163.

Coxswain, Forcheimer. 124.

Substitute, Dudley.

Fiske is unwell at present, but will probably take his place in the boat by next week.

Stroke. Settles badly at both full reach and finish. Should swing over the keel. Is slow in getting forward on the recover. Should get his oar on the full reach. Bends his arms too soon.

7. Settles at the finish. Gets an extra body reach after he has come down with his slide. Feathers under water and rows his oar out.

6. Is slow in starting forward. Should keep his knees well together. Settles at the finish. Fails to keep a good hold with his outside hand. Is apt to row out and must watch the time.

5. Should be careful to get his body reach before he uses his slide. Is apt to drop out at the full reach. Doesn't get his shoulders well on. Bends his arms too soon. Settles badly. Jerks at the finish and rows his oar out.

4. Fails to row smoothly engugh. Should keep a good grip with his outside hand. Is very apt to meet and row short.

3. Like No. 5, he uses his slide before he gets his body reach. Drops out at full reach. Bends his arms too soon. Meets badly. Does not face his oar sufficiently and is apt to clip.

2. Should get his body reach at the beginning of the stroke. Rushes his slide badly. Swings in towards his oar. Settles at the finish. Clips and rows short. Is very slow on the start.

Bow. Slumps at full reach and finish. Doesn't get his shoulders well on. Meets badly and rushes his slide. Should remember to use his toe straps. Must be careful to drop his oar right in at the full reach. Rows short.

Coxswain. Should keep his attention fixed upon his work.

As a whole, the crew fail to control themselves. They rush down on the recover and fail to get their weight right on. With hardly an exception the men settle badly at the finish.
