The intercollegiate tennis tournament began last Monday morning on the grounds of the New Haven lawn tennis club. The high wind, and the state of the courts, which were badly washed, prevented the members of the eight colleges from making any very brilliant plays. In the preliminary round, Brown was beaten by Hall, of Columbia, 6-2, 6-2. Sears beat Johnson of Princeton, 6-1, 6-2; in the second round, Sears also beat Wright of Trinity, 6-2, 6-2. In the doubles, Chase and Tailer defeated Woodruff and Deane, of Amhearst, by a score of 6-0, 6-1.
