Now that the leisure hours during the afternoons are fully occupied by base-ball and lawn tennis, very little attention is paid to what is going on in the gymnasium. For the past three weeks, however, the candidates for the tug of-war team which is to represent Harvard at the Mott Haven games have been training under the care of Captain Pease. They have been working hard and the effect of this is becoming daily more and more apparent, so much so that it is thought that this year's team will be as good as, if not better than any previous one. The candidates as yet have not been selected, but it is probable that the rope men will be the same men who for the past two years have helped bring victory to '88, namely, Pease, Purdon, and Chase. Of these, Pease is the only one who pulled on the 'varsity last year. The anchor will undoubtedly be Easton, who has held that position on the 'varsity tug-of-war team during the last three years. The other candidates are Batchelder, L. S., Adams, '86, and Hunter, '89.
