The Columbia Spectator for Jan 13, 1886, contains a short notice which will be of interest to the Globe and other papers that have been ignorantly talking about Harvard's neglect to reply to the challenge of the Columbia freshmen. The Spectator says:

The following reply has been received te the freshman challenge to Harvard, '89:

CAMBRIDGE, Jan'y 5, 1886.MR. E. J. O'SULLIVAN:

DEAR SIR - The freshman class of Harvard accepts the challenge of the freshman class of Columbia to an eight-oared shell race with coxswains, two miles straightaway. Time, place and minor details to be arranged here after.
