About a hundred spectators, chilled by the rain, and numbed by the cold wind which blew across Jarvis Field, stood for thirty-five minutes Saturday afternoon to see Harvard beat Dartmouth. The game was delayed till four in the hope that the weather would clear. There was a little cessation of the rain at that time, and the teams appeared. Dartmouth took the west goal and kick off. Play had lasted just one minute when rushes by Sears, Woodman and Porter brought the ball over the line. Woodman kicked the goal. The ball was again put in play, and good plays by Bancroft and Holden enabled Porter to make the second touchdown; time, 3 minutes. Goal. Another touchdown by Fletcher from long runs by Holden and Porter, in which a Dartmouth man literally slid twenty feet on his back in the mud, - a most comical occurrence. Time, 4 minutes. No goal. Odlin, when the ball was again put in play, made the first attempt at rushing on the part of Dartmouth, but was stopped by Harding. A fine spurt by Woodman brought the ball close to goal, and Holden dived over the line with it. Time, 4 minutes. Goal. Odlin led off with a long kick which Peabody returned; Kelley muffed it and Bancroft secured it near goal. In another minute Porter ran past the whole eleven and scored the fifth touchdown. Goal. Time, 2 minutes. When the ball was again put in play, Butler and Fletcher by good rushes again brought it over the line. Time, 2 minutes. Porter missed the punt-out, but ran in with the ball and scored the seventh touchdown in half a minute. Goal. Harvard now fumbled badly for a few minutes on account of the ball being slimy; however, rushes by Sears and Harding brought the ball up the field again, and Porter scored. Time, 5 1-2 minutes. The kick for goal was stopped, but Harding rushed over the line and secured the ball before Dartmouth could get it. Goal. After four minutes more play, during which the half-backs exchanged some long punts, and Holden was stunned for a moment in a collision with Bancroft, Butler rushed the ball to the line and Fletcher carried it over. Goal. Dartmouth now tried delaying tactics to no purpose. Rushes by Woodman, Holden and Porter brought the ball into the enemies' ground once more, and Woodman carried it over. Time, 5 minutes. Goal. The ball was put in play for the last time and Wood rushed it up the field at once, then passing to Sears, who ran past the whole eleven and touched it down. In the try for goal the ball struck the bar and bounded back into Woodman's arms, returning to the other side of the line in five seconds. Woodman kicked a goal from the touchdown, and as by this time the rain was coming down in torrents, the game was called. Harvard made 13 touchdowns, from which Woodman kicked 9 goals. On the whole, Harvard played the best game of the year, though the backs fumbled the ball often; this was very excusable, as the ball was soaked with rain, and coated with mud. Dartmouth's captain, Odlin, played well, but his team did not support him at all. The teams were as follows: Harvard. Rushers, Holden, Bancroft, Wood, Brooks, Woodman, Butler, Harding; quarter-back, Fletcher; half-backs, Sears and Porter; full back, Peabody. Dartmouth. Rushers, Hurd, Morgan, Eaton, Dartt, Norton, Blossom, Hagen; quarter-back, Odlin, (capt); half-backs, Artz, Bodwell; fullback, Kelley. Referee, Mr. F. A. Mason.
