A number of candidates for the Brass Band met last night in Mr. Hood's room. Horns' sputtered and cornets' wheezed, and all the north entry of Weld was kept unhappy for a couple of hours. Among the instruments, two trombones, and an E flat Helicon did the most execution. A snare-drum solo by Mr. Morrison was extremely sad and touching, - many wept. The band starts this year under the able lead of Mr. Burbank, with brilliant prospects. It has foresworn "chestnuts" and promises an entirely new repertoire: its only need at present is a few more altos, and anyone who has ever played alto will be welcomed with open arms by the club.
