English 12.

In the second half year the work in English 12 will be as follows: Eight themes, the first due Feb. 18, and after that every alternate Thursday till the annuals. The first seven of these themes are all to deal with some particular topic, which, for the purpose in hand shall be divided into six distinct parts.

The first theme is to consist of an introduction to the topic in hand, stating why it is chosen, and dividing it into the six parts required by this scheme, arranging these parts in the order in which they shall be treated.

The following six themes, due at intervals of two weeks, are to deal with the various parts of the topic in hand, in the order and manner announced in the first theme.

The examination is to consist of a summary of the matter contained in these six themes, so arranged and condensed as to present the topic in hand in a compact and intelligible form.

A student is in no way required to choose a topic in any way connected with his other college work. He is quite at liberty to devote himself to anything in which he feels interested - provided that his proposed plan does not meet the disapproval of the instructor.

In the choice of topics for treatment under this scheme the widest liberty is to be granted each student. As a matter of economy it is earnestly recommended that each man choose some topic connected with the elective in which he is at present most interested.
