An adjourned meeting of the Overseers of Harvard College was held yesterday in the absence of the President of the board, the Hon. Leverett Salton-stall occupied the chair. The Rev. James Freeman Clarke was added to the committee to visit the observatory. The board concurred with the president and fellows in appointing William Henry Baldwin, Jr., as Proctor. Communications were received from the president and fellows conveying their votes to establish a Peabody Professorship of American Archaeology and Lithology in the university, and selecting Frederic Ward Putnam, A. M., as professor in said department.
