HARVARD 15, PRINCETON 3.The game opened with Princeton at the bat, but they were soon retired in order. Harvard got in four runs on Toler's muff of Coolidge's fly, Allen's hit and several passed balls. In the 2d inning, for Princeton, after two men were out, Harlan took first base on balls and second on a passed ball, but the next two men went out in order.
Third inning. Both nines went out in order. In the fourth inning Princeton made their first run, Reynolds getting first base on muffed three strikes, second and third on a passed ball and coming in on Van Ausdal's hit. Harvard went out in order.
Fifth inning. Princeton made another run on Daker's muff, a wild pitch and a passed ball. Harvard, by a streak of heavy batting and by several errors by Princeton, succeeded in making five runs. Score, Harvard 9, Princeton 2.
In the sixth, Princeton went out in order. For Harvard, Winslow led off with a base hit and took second on a passed ball. Nichols made his second three-base hit, bringing in Winslow. Crocker took first on Larkin's error and Nichols scored. Crocker stole second and came in on Coolidge's three-base hit; Baker hit safely, bringing in Coolidge. The next three men went out, but Baker succeeding in scoring on errors by Reynolds and Shaw. Score, 14 to 2.
Neither side made anything in the seventh. In the eighth inning Princeton made one more run on errors by Phillips and Crocker. For Harvard, Phillips scored on a base hit, a steal and two passed balls. Princeton failed to improve their score in the ninth and so the game closed with the score 15 to 3 in Harvard's favor.
Princeton played rather a loose fielding game; Cooper and Van Etten did their best work. Harlan's hands were in a very bad condition, and in the fifth inning he changed places with Shaw at right field. Moffatt broke a finger in the same inning and Larkin took his place at first base. They were entirely unable to hit Nichols' delivery.
Harvard played a sharp fielding game, Coolidge and LeMoyne distinguishing themselves, while Nichols wholly puzzled his opponents. They batted very heavily. Nichols led with two three-base hits and a single, and Coolidge and Phillips both hit well. Below is the score.
