As the Queen of England was entering her carriage at Windsor last evening a man in the station yard fired a pistol at her. No one was injured by the shot. The man, who gave his name as Roderick McLean, was arrested and placed in the Windsor police station. He stated that hunger actuated the crime. A crowd, among whom several Eton students were prominent, attempted to lynch the would-be assassin, but were prevented by the police. The general opinion is that the act was the result of lunacy.
