Quite a lively little blaze of two or three minutes duration occurred in a student's room, on Prescott street, yesterday afternoon. The origin of the fire is attributed to a coal from a cigarette, which, dropping in a large pile of papers, lay unnoticed until the papers, books and an adjacent window curtain were in a blaze. There was but one person in the room and he had to do some lively work to prevent a serious fire. The damage done to the carpet and furniture will probably amount to $100.
