As a result of the poor public and college attendance and lack of interest at the recent G.B.I. track meets, the Athletic Association has definitely decided to substitute a gala Relay Carnival for this event next year.
It is not yet known whether all the New England College will take part in this new innovation, but it is the consensus that the great majority will be present.
The new Carnival is not intended as a competitor of the famous Penn Relays, but it will add new life to the early spring track schedule, as well as providing all New England teams a chance to compete.
In the past most of New England has not been represented at Philadelphia for two reasons, the first financial, the second because of the stiff competition.
Fairer Competition
The proposed Harvard Carnival would eliminate both of these. The teams will no longer have to face the better prepared colleges from the Middle West and South, teams which have a big jump due to more favorable weather. As the conditions will not vary greatly in New England, all the teams will come to the meet with about the same amount of preparation, with closer, and fairer competition surer to result.
Two Classes
The tentative plans call for the College relay competition being divided into two classes, according to ability, as has been done in the New England Intercollegiates in the past.
This meet has been planned for several years, but its inception has been frequently postponed because of conflicts of schedule.
