Garber Privately Tells Faculty That Harvard Must Rethink Messaging After GOP Victory
"All our ability is used defensively," was the criticism of American hockey made by Captain-elect F.R.G. Giddens '30 of the Harvard sextet, in an article appearing in a recent issue of the "Yale Daily News."
"Not that the game here is greatly inferior to the game played in Canada," said Giddens. "Never has one been so impressed with the quality of hockey that is played at Yale, at Dartmouth, and at Harvard as this winter. The hockey is swift, it is rugged, it is good, and yet--the hockey we are playing today is not so productive, not so interesting to watch, not so exciting to play, as it should be.... The over-defensive tactics applied by all college teams is giving the sport a passive interpretation."
Giddens remarked, however, that there is now a tendency toward a more open game, of which he heartily approves. He feels that it will make hockey more interesting for the spectators and more enjoyable for the players.
