Harvard will open its 1949 football season against Stanford at Palo Alto on September 24, Athletic Director Bill Bingham disclosed yesterday. The Indians will come here in 1950 for a return game on September 30.
Next fall's meeting will mark the first time that Harvard and Stanford have played football against each other. The Crimson has visited the West Coast once before, though, beating Oregon 7-6 in the 1920 Rose Bowl.
When the Indians play here in 1950, they will be making their second appearance in the Stadium. They met Dartmouth here back in 1931. Stanford has produced some great football teams in recent years, although its 1947 record was dismal, with the Indians losing every game.
As for the rest of the 1949 Crimson schedule, no dates have been arranged, but return games with Army and Columbia are already contracted for, and according to Bingham, "it's safe to say we'll finish up with Yale."
